For purposes of this section of our Peruvian site we have designated all destinations outside of the Amazon rain forest as the 'highlands' of Peru where elevations will range from 9,000 feet above sea level to 19,000.
Here you will find information on Cusco, with its amazing Inka architecture combined with beautiful Colonial buildings; Machu Piccu, known as "The Lost City of the Inkas" where centuries ago the Inkas terraced their mountaintop city for planting and built impressive ceremonial stone buildings; The Nazca Lines where, around 900 B.C., the Nazca Indians made huge drawings in the desert of birds, fish and animals which can be seen from either hilltop locations or from the air; Lake Titicaca (12,600 elevation) where the Uros Indians live on artificial floating reed islands or Ariquipa, better known as the "White City" for its Colonial buildings constructed of white volcanic stone.
Peru is a facinating destination with so much to offer and SACA looks forward to assisting you in planning your itinerary.
